The opening ceremony theme of the Paralympic Games last night in London was enlightenment. Co-directed by Bradley Hemmings and Jenny Sealey, the event attracted nearly 8 million viewers on the UK’s Channel 4.

In partnership with Fleishman-Hillard, Visa’s Go World campaign for the London 2012 Olympic Games reached out to more than 70 countries and used social media platforms and digital advertising to encourage fans to cheer on their favorite athletes, such as Michael Phelps, Allyson Felix, Misty May-Treanor, and Kerri Walsh-Jennings. The results included more than 60 million global cheers made on the Go World Facebook page.

Phelps’ agent Peter Carlisle said the retired swimmer did not violate the International Olympic Committee rules when provocative pictures of the swimmer in a campaign for fashion house Louis Vuitton were leaked on the Internet during the London Games.
The IOC’s provision known as Rule 40 prohibits athletes from promoting non-official sponsors during and shortly before the Games. Possible sanctions include stripping medals won by an offending athlete.
