With superstorm Sandy leaving millions without power or stuck indoors, several retailers, including the Gap, American Apparel, and Urban Outfitters, attempted to capitalize on those home-bound by offering online “Sandy sales.” American Apparel released an ad targeting those states hit hardest by Sandy with 20% off for 36 hours, “in case you’re bored during the storm.” The “Sandy sales” were met with some outcry on the Twitterverse.
What do you think? Smart marketing strategy or bad PR stunt?
