Quitting Facebook may be harder than you think. A study by the University of Chicago Booth School of Business found that texting and checking Facebook and Twitter have become as addictive as cigarettes and sex.
Subjects ranging in age from 18 to 85 were given BlackBerries and asked to notify researchers every 30 minutes if they had the urge to log on to their social media hangouts. They were also asked to mentally rate their desire for other urges such as sleep, smoking, and sex. Researchers determined that resisting the temptation of social media was harder than other urges.
