Google is continuing its foray into original content with the announcement that the Web giant plans to purchase travel guides Frommer’s from publisher Wiley & Sons Inc. for an undisclosed amount. The purchase follows Google’s acquisition of restaurant review guide Zagat for $151 million last September. Google plans to incorporate Frommer’s travel content into its local reviews. This is another sign of Google competing with sites such as Yelp and TripAdvisor in creating original content to strengthen its search power and attract more advertising revenue.
