Twitter has launched the Political Index - in partnership with Topsy, USA Today, The Mellman Group and North Star Opinion Research - to gauge daily sentiment surrounding the 2012 presidential election.
Twitter will scan tweets mentioning one of the candidates and weigh it against millions of tweets about other topics. The site will work with data of nearly two million tweets a week mentioning one of the candidates. The micro-blogging site also calls the Index a complement to traditional polling.
